We climbed Cape Town's famous Table Mountain on New Year's Day, 2001. How's that for a great way to start the new millennium!
Although you don't really get a sense of it from the pictures, it was a very windy day, and the cable car was out of service for the entire time that we were climbing up and we resigned ourselves to having to climb back down again. Fortunately the wind died down long enough for the cable car to go back into service just as got to the top and carry us and our tired legs to the bottom after we had had lunch.

We've come a long way... |
...but it's still a long way to the top. |
Hurry up, Chrissie! |
You're almost there, Mom! |
Nigel and Shirley-Anne. |
Hang on to your hat, Ted. |
Lunchtime--sheltering from the wind. |

Yikes, it's a long way down! Notice the cable station at bottom-right. |
Some people have to do it the hard way. |
