We climbed Cape Town's famous Table Mountain on New Year's Day, 2001. How's that for a great way to start the new millennium!

Although you don't really get a sense of it from the pictures, it was a very windy day, and the cable car was out of service for the entire time that we were climbing up and we resigned ourselves to having to climb back down again. Fortunately the wind died down long enough for the cable car to go back into service just as got to the top and carry us and our tired legs to the bottom after we had had lunch.

We Stop for Directions

Lion's Head is in the background.

Watch for falling rocks.

Which way, Mom?

You can see the upper cable-car station, where we were headed, at the top of the picture. Going straight up looked a little dangerous, so we walked left across the surface of the mountain several hundred meters then took a winding path that criss-crossed a gorge that took us to the top.

Shirley-Anne = Lara Croft?

Would you buy a car from this man?

We've come a long way...

...but it's still a long way to the top.

You can do it!

Hurry up, Chrissie!

You're almost there, Mom!

Hang on to your hat, Ted.

Riding Down in the Cable-car

Yikes, it's a long way down! Notice the cable station at bottom-right.

Some people have to do it the hard way.
